European Union Society
From student initiative to Europe-wide policy platform – shaping how young Europeans engage with the future of the European Union.
Founded in 2024 by Jakub Mirkowski in Warsaw, the European Union Society brings together policy design, high-level political simulation, and direct engagement with European institutions into a single, integrated platform for future leaders.
National Winner of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize
The European Union Society's flagship initiative UkrainEU, initiated and led by Jakub Mirkowski, has been recognised as the national winner of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize, awarded by the European Parliament and the Foundation of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen.
This distinction places the initiative among the most impactful youth-led European projects, contributing to dialogue on the future of Europe and EU enlargement.
Flagship Initiatives
UkrainEU
A high-impact civic and policy platform connecting young Europeans around the European future of Ukraine. The initiative combines academic exchange, policy debate, and institutional dialogue, and has been recognised at the European level through the Charlemagne Youth Prize.
NODES – Network of Diverse European Societies
A pan-European initiative founded in 2025 by Jakub Mirkowski, connecting student-led European affairs organizations across Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. NODES creates a coordinated framework for cross-border collaboration, policy dialogue, and the development of future European policy leaders.
Model European Union Warsaw
A flagship simulation of EU decision-making, organized under the patronage of the European Commission, the European Parliament Liaison Office, and national institutions. The initiative brings together students from across Europe to engage in high-level negotiations within the Council of the European Union.
About the European Union Society
The European Union Society was founded on the insight that student engagement with European policymaking remained fragmented and often disconnected from institutional reality.
In response, Jakub Mirkowski created a platform that integrates three core dimensions of real-world EU engagement:
- policy design and research
- high-stakes political simulation
- direct dialogue with European institutions and policymakers
Since its founding in March 2024 in Warsaw, the Society has rapidly evolved into one of the most dynamic student-led platforms in Europe, engaging participants across multiple countries and building lasting institutional partnerships.
The Society prepares globally-minded students for careers in European institutions, diplomacy, and international policy by combining academic excellence with practical experience and international collaboration.
A Europe-Wide Network
Through NODES – Network of Diverse European Societies, the European Union Society extends its impact beyond a single university, creating a transnational ecosystem of student-led policy engagement.
The network connects organizations across Europe and enables:
- joint policy initiatives and research
- international events and expert dialogues
- cross-border collaboration between future policymakers
NODES reflects a shift from isolated student activity to coordinated European-level engagement, positioning young people as active contributors to public debate and policymaking.
Our Impact
- 5,000+ participants engaged across projects and events
- 15+ countries represented
- 30+ expert speakers from European institutions, academia, and policy
